President’s Message

Greetings!

I am Tanée Johnson-Bowman, president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Westchester Alumnae Chapter.  On behalf of our 146 members, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website – our chapter’s on-line home. We appreciate your visit and are pleased to use this venue to share our chapter’s programs, projects and initiatives.

Westchester Alumnae Chapter (WAC) was chartered on October 31, 1959 and for more than 50 years has upheld the sorority’s tradition of public service to our community through programs that initiate social change, encourage academic excellence and elevate cultural awareness, based on the organization’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust:

  • Economic Development
  • Educational Development
  • International Awareness and Involvement
  • Physical and Mental Health
  • Political Awareness and Involvement

We are very proud of the work we are doing in the Westchester communities to support our sorority’s national and regional initiatives.  We are “Delta Sigma Theta – A Sisterhood Called to Service: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities.” Annually, proceeds from our Toast to Spring Brunch provide scholarships, endowments and book awards totaling more than $15,000 in support of post-secondary education for young women graduating from Westchester County high schools. In 2010, as our newest initiative, we launched the EMBODI program (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) to address the educational, social (health) and economic crises among young, Black males.  Additionally, we continue to collaborate with other organizations to develop and implement programs in Westchester County that address basic human needs, including: housing, food, jobs, education, political representation, and economic survival.

Thank you for visiting our site. I hope the information you find here will inspire you to be an agent for change in your local and global communities. Please be sure to visit us regularly to learn more about our upcoming programs, and join us at our next event or service project.

Don’t forget to sign our guestbook.  Thank you for your support.

In the spirit of sisterhood and service,

Tanée Johnson-Bowman
