Scholarship Application

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must meet all of the Eligibility Requirements listed below:

  • Be an African-American female, high school senior planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university.

  • Reside in Westchester County and graduate from high school by June 2024.

  • Have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 83% or higher, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale.

  • Have previously applied for Fall 2024 admission/enrollment in a two- or four-year college or university.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

A complete application and all supporting documents must be submitted electronically to be considered for the scholarship. All materials MUST BE RECEIVED by the extended deadline MARCH 6, 2024. A complete application contains the following:

  • Completed application with signed Declaration by parent and applicant.

  • One-page typed double-spaced essay (750 words or less). The Essay prompt should answer:

    “Describe an accomplishment or challenge you have experienced and how it has impacted your life.”

  • Official transcript with cumulative GPA requirement sent from your school.

  • Two (2) signed Letters of Recommendation addressed to Westchester Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Committee, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and written on official letterhead.

  • Résumé.

  • Financial Need Statement (Optional). Please do not submit tax forms or FAFSA.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Factors considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee in evaluating applications include academic achievement, community service, leadership, and financial need.

Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.

Transcripts and letters of recommendation submitted by the applicant will not be accepted; these documents must come from official sources.

Recommendation letters not on official letterhead and/or unsigned will not be accepted.

Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed.

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. All parts of the application must be completed. All requested documents and letters must be received electronically.

RECOMMENDATION LETTERS

APPLICANT: Provide your recommender with the link to the recommendation form and the submission requirements shown below.

All recommendations must be received by MARCH 6, 2024

Two letters of recommendation are required:

  1. Guidance Counselor

  2. Teacher or Community Service Supervisor

Each letter of recommendation must:

  • Be addressed to Westchester Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Committee, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

  • Be on the official letterhead of the writer.

  • State the applicant’s name, relationship to the applicant, and length of time the recommender has known the applicant.

  • Speak to the applicant’s character, education, community or volunteer service, level of commitment, and any other pertinent information the committee should consider.

  • Be uploaded as a PDF attachment.

Your application must have two specific recommendation letters submitted to be considered complete.

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENT

An official high school transcript must be submitted with this application. Instructions for transcript submission:

1. Download and complete the release form. Your parent or guardian must sign this form. Find the link to download the Release Form for Parents below:

2. Submit the form to your guidance counselor or whomever at your school is responsible for transcripts.

3. Instruct your school to submit the official transcript using the link on the form.

SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW

Applicants who qualify will be contacted by the Scholarship Committee and informed of the interview date, time, and location. Interviews will be scheduled during the 3rd week of March 2024.

NOTIFICATION OF AWARDS

All applicants will be notified by email in April 2024, upon completion of the scholarship award process.
